Charity: Proceeds will go to the City of Miami’s  TEAM FOR LIFE Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Public Access to Defibrillation (PAD) Program (the AED PAD program, or PAD program for short). The PAD program works to help make AEDs available in public and/or private places in Miami “in order to improve survival rates of those who suffer a cardiac arrest.”

Why: Hearts are powerful, enduring muscles but they may still succumb to problems that cause them to stop beating. Sudden cardiac arrest is the condition in which a person’s heart suddenly stops beating properly. This is suffered by people of all ages. Once the heart stops, the victim has two to five minutes before irreversible brain damage begins to occur. If used in time, the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device can jump start the heart, saving the victim’s life.  Unfortunately, getting an AED to a victim before brain damage occurs is very difficult, which is why installing AEDs in public places around Miami can mean saving someone’s life.

Text Box: The AED uses an electrical shock to reset heart cells, giving them the best chance to start working together as a beating heart.
Text Box: Sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone, including the thin, the young, and the fit. Clogged arteries are not a prerequisite.
Text Box: Sudden cardiac arrest is the Nation’s leading cause of death; over 465,000 Americans die each year from this medical emergency.
